Looks like 531c on the sticker, though.

Too light a steel, I think, for a touring model.

Did Mercian make something like the Audax Special in the Eighties?

The Audax Special is currently being made with the 631c. Strong enough to bear the basics of Randonneuring runs but a bit whippy for the loaded tourist.
