Hi all, after a few years I've managed to end up with 2 old Campagnolo
GS RD's. From what I can find on the interweb I have both an older
version with the cable adjuster and a newer one with the wider spring
cover, this version also appears NOT to have a threaded hole for a cable
adjuster ( I'm sure I need glasses).
Both suffer from lack of unkeep, but the newer one is in way better
cosmetic condition, and would look quite nice fitted to a bicycle. Both
have some missing or damagaed parts, but between them and some other
odds I've managed to obtain over the years I could rebuild the better
one to a better state.
My problem is, at the end of the day is the time, effort and expendature
going to be worth it, or am I wasting my time? I've looked up catalog
#12 for some ideas on what parts are required, I'm thinking I'd need the
following.
2x 94 pulley cone bolt
2x 96 pulley cone nut
1x 90 anti rotation screw
4x 83 pin or bush
4 x 82 pin or bush
I'm sure these are common items to rebuild one of these, I only have
some pins and bushes here, that is providing the pins are 3.5mm OD and
the bushes are 5mm OD, I'm sure these are the correct sizes for the ones
in my vast parts boxes that seem to be of the same length as these short
items.
Some may cry at the thought of me butchering such items, but hey at
least its keeping them alive and out there. But at the end of the day
these items are NOT NOS, please tell me wether its worth my effort or
that I'm just wasting my time, afterall bronze does have a scrap value,
just like other bicycle metal in my scrap box. If I rebuilt this, is the
new owner going to use it as a wall hanger, or is he going to use it? I
have no idea, all my bikes apart from my track bike are from the 80's
and 90's.............regards wayne davidson Invers NZ.......
