First off, I apologize for the lack of a heading on my original post about my 26 TPI Super Course mixte. The email got stalled in cyberspace on my fir st click of the send button, and for some reason the heading didn't survive to the next send.

Thanks to all who responded.  One lister had a shop successfully re-tap t o 24 TPI.  I could and have used a crank-appropriate spindle with the original cups , but the shell  was not well machined and therefore would not adjust as well as I like.  Since I only have only standard English threading in my Campy tool case, I can't even face the shell, so that is why I was asking a bout the re-tapping idea.   I guess I could go with the Phil 26 TPI rin gs, and certainly a non-Phil cartridge would be cheaper.  I was trying to get out of the situation on the cheap. I guess I'll have to mull this over a bit.  I had only researched this topic thru the CR archives.  A wider search offered many opinions, including old reliab le Sheldon Brown, who says it's OK if you use a quality guided tap-set, whi ch I fortunately happen to have.
