I ship a lot of bikes and large stuff. When I felt Fedex was not doing a great job I opened a DHL account. I closed it within' a couple of weeks. They lost a wheelset right off the bat, but eventually found it on the wrong side of the country.
But the worse problem (as somebody already mentioned) was, re-billing everything I shipped at a larger oversize rate. I'm manical about "girth", and always make sure I'm at least an inch or more under any maximum size constraints, so I know each instance was just an attempt to jack up the price.
After fighting over three bills I canceled my account and learned to love Fedex.
