Since discussing shipping, folks should be aware that FedX explicitly does not allow for insurance of vintage items. You may be able to finagle around it, but technically vintage/collectible items cannot be insured when shipped by FedX for value beyond $100. Even if you pay the insurance, that means nothing. Many folks may work around this by claiming a lost/damaged item as current. For instance, if your 1972 vintage colnago is lost, you can try perhaps to claim replacement with a modern Columbus SL frame. But if you let it me known the item is vintage, the claims reps will try to void the claim (except for the $100. This will apply to cameras, and anything else old. UPS and postal service do not seem to have the same language in their policies. This may sound scary. And it should. Be very careful out there. If I had to ship something really rare insured, UPS is now the only game in town (OK, maybe BAX global which ships in the US but I don't know about their policies).
