I've had a number of frames, with chrome fork crown and ends, sandblast ed professionally, and since I request them to mask the chrome, I've ne ver had any problem with damage to the chrome, although they do, of cou rse, make a charge for this.

I've also found recently that a wrench dropped on a top tube removes paint very effectively, but I don't recommend this...
