Chris & Travis,

$175 does sound a bit steep, as most shops I've ever used are at most about $50 to pack a full bike for shipment. I've purchased a few bikes from Cr aigslist from outside Wisconsin on Craigslist where the seller only wante d the bike available for local pick up, but what I do is just ask them that once I've paid for the bike they drop it off at there local shop and I arr ange packing and shipping with the shops manager, and I specify Fedex a s the shipper because their rates are much less than UPS, and provide much better service. As said over the last few years all shops have asked betw een $25 to $50 to pack the bike, and once this is done I arrange for Fede x to pick up the bike, as I've a Fedex account.

Best regards,

1. You might try to get the seller to agree to let a local bike shop you contract with and pay pick up and ship. 2. Yes, the seller may be wasting money with an expensive shipper, otherwise. 3. But ask experienced shippers what the real cost of packing is because my limited experience is that 4. Packing is way under-priced by most sellers, so much so that 5. An economically rational seller with better things or more productive things to do with time should be willing to kick back some of the purcha se price to a buyer who picks up a bike, PREPAID, rather than incur the cos ts of packing and shipping a bike cross country for a listed $75.

But, mostly regard this as a cost seen by all competitors for the bike, depressing all bids.
