I'm not the expert that some on this list are, but I'd go with the old logo. As you point out, '78 was a transition year. No doubt that there was still quite a supply of "old logo" Cinelli parts out there. If someone were building a new bike in '78 (even towards the end of the year), chances are, the parts they'd be using would still have had the older logo -- and I think this would be the case whether the bike were being built in the factory or by the home mechanic. Not to mention, from a completely non-rational emotional standpoint, the old logo is much cooler (my opinion).
