You're correct in that the Shimano UF semi-vertical dropouts were only used briefly -- about a year as I recall -- but I brazed dozens of them, maybe even more. The Shimano UF dropouts were phased out because they were prone to break at the chainstay/dropout joint. When they came back for repair, we used Campy 1010Bs. Perhaps this explains their relative scarcity.
