This brings up an interesting point. For most of the companies in the classic era, you can think of a reason why they became successful and thrived through this era. I'm thinking about Campagnolo, Simplex, Reynolds, Suntour, Mafac(lightness), TA(chainrings) ~ each company had a niche patent or something that nobody else had, although in Reynolds's case one might consider their niche as a first-mover and later a strong marketer ...

What got Stronglight started and what kept them alive?

For that matter, what about Maillard and Huret ??

P.S. I love the aesthetics of the stronglight 63, 93, 105 cranks but aesthetics alone does not make a successful bicycle company ...
