While we are thinking of them, can someone remind me what the term for ' chainstay protector' is in the French language? I'm thinking of the susp ended variety, usually seen in leather or rubber. Was it 'rattrap chaine '? Or is that something else? I had a look in Sheldon Brown's glossary o f french cycling terminology the other day and didn't see it. I have a circa 1982 Fuji cyclotouring bike (650B-equipped from stock) th at uses two spokes (under tension) for the same purpose. There's a stick er declaring "spokeholder" nearby on the chainstay, but with a portion o f the "p" missing, it almost appears to say "smokeholder." I never took up cigarettes, but there's an idea! How about a bar-mounted "smokes-hold er", adjacent to your bar-mounted stopwatch? Have a sprint and a smoke. Celebrate that time-trial with a tiparillo.... Perhaps the bolt-cover on the stem of your constructeur-built randoneuse can be hinged, pocket-watch or locket -style) to make a convenient ash receptacle....
