The French riders, and probably most of the pro riders, rode the bikes of t heir pro sponsors so Poulidor had the pink Mercier, while Thevenet had the silver Peugeot PY-10. I don't remember any top pro Mercier-sponsored tea ms riding anything but solid pink frames with white letters.

I was there as well. Merckx outsprinted Poulidor in the final straigh t t o take the victory, no one else was close. So if the photo is o f the finish, that is definitely Pou-Pou.
