Dale and all,

Obviously someone got their hands on a Masi frame that Mario no doubt ha d a hand in; but it's still a Masi. The Masi Carlsbad serial number is r ight there on the BB shell. I suspect some of the drilling on the frame is not original. The frame is a Masi that got some extra attention. Then someone ended up with some paragraphed parts and proceeded to do the sl oppiest trim paint job in history and throw them on this frame. I think they overdid the pimping on this one by a pretty good margin. I can prom ise you Mario would not have approved of this approach to anything that had to do with him.

In addition someone got their hands on a bunch of Confente decals and pa sted them all over the bike like a billboard. A complete waste of at lea st 2 sets of decals; and then didn't put any clear over them. This is wh at I call sad in a certain sense. Had the job been done well and with so me slightly reserved taste; one might be a able to look at this bike and say, "hummm, interesting". The way it sits it forces the need to produc e a technicolor yawn.

Pimping a bike is an art form. One bike I can think of that was pimped w ith some taste is a Wizard that Chuck Schmidt owns. It's even done in th e green motif, but MUCH more skillfully and tastefully.

If I remember correctly, that bike is an attempt by its owner to reduce the weight at all costs. I think it belongs to an acquaintance of Steven Maasland. But look at this pic: ?http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/maasland/Mario-Confente-bike/PICT37 48.jpg.html

You can see a gap at the rear where the undersized handle bar is pushed very far forward by the stem internal wedge system. These Cinelli 1R ste ms are infamous for their wedge screw and slider becoming stripped out, usually due to over tightening and also because it's not a great design in the first place. Cinelli replaced this design with their XA model. In any case, just another example of why it is not a good idea to put a 26 .0 bar in a 26.4 stem.....

Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

With all this talk of the eBay Confente, I looked for photos of his work on the

Web.

So how did he do it?
