Re: [CR]Light weight freewheels and cassettes

(Example: Production Builders)

Modern Campi cassettes are either all steel or ti/steel with the top of the line being made from all titanium. ------Original Message------ From: Tom Sanders Sender: classicrendezvous-bounces@bikelist.org To: Classicrendezvous@bikelist.org Sent: 1 Dec 2008 19:04 Subject: [CR]Light weight freewheels and cassettes

Are the metals used in contemporary alloy cassette cogs different from those in '70s freewheels? There seems to be a consensus that the '70s ones wore so quickly that they really were hardly meant for daily use. Now, on the other hand, I've had at least a half dozen modern Campagnolo steel and Alloy cassettes where the larger cogs were alloy and have never seen even the slightest wear on any of them.

Might there be someone out there who could tell us a bit about this?
