I've only taken one Intellectual Property class, but I'm sure the "Marque Deposee" or "Deposee" refers only to the Stronglight trademark. (The design of the crank would be patented) It's equivalent to the registered trademark R-in-a-circle in the U.S. The trademark statutes require that a registered mark be labelled as such in order to gain the benefit of certain rules. It could be that the trademark laws in France changed (or treaties came in force) that required that the word "marque" be added or perhaps there was a court decision along the same lines.
