Not in my experience. The Simplex mounts I've seen are threaded 6Mx1, those used for water bottle mounts are 5Mx0.8

I'm not a fan of braze-on front derailleurs, but the Simplex mount appears to be less failure-prone than the more common curved mount used by Italian and Japanese companies.
