Subject: [CR]Meeting international postal requirements

I'd like to tap the collective postal wisdom of those on the list who ship items internationally. I am committed (the person won these on Ebay) to sending a pair of rims to Australia. When I listed the auction, I did not consider that the items would not meet the US Postal measurements. (As many know, some countries have the total limit as 109 inches (measured Length + 2(height + width) but others--and there doesn't seem to be a reason for why one country has the larger dimensions and the other has the smaller--have 79 inches.) No matter how I measure it--though I have major deficiencies in catching onto spatial relationships--the rims measure 26 inches either height or length and 3 inch width. That gives me 84 inches. Those who have successfully shipped rims internationally within that 79 inch limit, could you please inform me how you did it? Does the post office allow wrapping the circumference of the rims with polyurethane and then meeting the requirement because the interior area is not packaged? Or is there another way?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.
