I can contribute another option, Bestine rubber cement solvent and thinner. One of the advantages of Bestine over products like Goo Gone, Goof Off, etc. is that Bestine is a much lighter solvent. It won't work on really stubborn adhesives, but it won't damage much of anything else either. It evaporates very rapidly, leaving no residue. Goo Gone, etc. DO leave a residue, so I use Bestine after those other solvents to remove their residue. I also use it to prep an area before applying a sticker or decal, because it removes any wax or oil (such as from your hands) that might be present.

Contact cleaner, designed to clean electronic contacts, also works in a similar way. It's a light solvent, evaporates quickly and leaves no residue.

As with all solvents, do a test on some unseen area first!
