Subject: [CR]Tax Deduction for Cycle Commuting

Just last week on one of the classic-oriented online vendors (Icycles.com p erhaps?)  I saw an ad that claimed that part of the economic stimulus pac kage is a deduction for bicycles and equipment for those who commute to wor k by bicycle.

My cycle commuting since June has not exactly been profitable, as the expen ditures on bags, racks, lights, etc. not to mention a few tube replacem ents, a broken chain, and a Campy Rally RD that broke in half, have far mor e than consumed the gasoline savings.  I believe it was said the tax de duction will be up to $240 or $250.  That won't even quite pay for the Gi les Berthoud panniers, but hey, every bit helps.

Since tax time will be coming up again soon, those who commute may want to ask your accountant about this deduction.  Help finance those Bethouds, C arradices, Nittos, Brooks, etc.
