I usually write private on this sort of subject, but why not onlist for once ?

First point, your seller has spelling which is giving google a headache. Two to one from the style/spelling he/she is 18-23 years old.

What he intends to put to you is please hold the payment, colissimo (parcel post ) won't handle it because of the size, in the meantime he's looking into things like DHL or others. The last mail says "sorry I haven't been able to find anybody, do you have a solution ?"

I can't give you a easy solution, but I can tell you that you want to phone around US or French transporters, find out what size box it has to be, and get a price for say 25 kgs freight, because if you want to stand the remotest chance of the bike arriving intact, it is going to need some very serious package. It will be thrown in a cargo hold of a plane with stuff weighing several tons likely as not. Then, you are going to need customs documents, like a PF invoice, a declared value, insurance: so hassle, and duties your end. On the pack side, the wheels need to be well protected from crush from the outside and from the bike itself.

So what I am saying basically is that if your seller can't handle it, you are going to have to handle everything from your end, including pick-up from his place and customs out of France and into the States.

Or you could ask him what the maximum size for Colissimo box is, and see if you can explain to your seller how to take apart and pack the bike into a box that size.

The other solution is to send him plans for polystyrene floats and a paddle wheel . For 170 euros ask him to pedal it across the pond.

I know this is a FAQ, did search the archives but I'm asking anyway. Hope you don't mind.

I bought a bike in France, via Ebay.

I am using google to translate his French into English and my English into French for him. I think the problem is the bicycle box is too large for Colissimo. He later wrote me, "bonjour au sujet des frais de port je suis desoler mais je n ai toujours pas trouver le moyen pour la livraison ou si vous aver une solution faite le moi savoir bonne journée". I told him I would ask some friends who sometimes ship bikes to the USA for advice. I've already paid for the bike plus 170 euro for

shipping. I'm not worried about the transaction, just trying to find a suitable means for getting it here, preferable in the same shape it leaves France.

If you can offer me shipping advice, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Just another bike nut,
