Subject: [CR]Omega Rims

Hi all,

During the recent thread concerning difficulty fitting tires on Campy Omega rims, Tom Dalton described four Omega clincher rims ( plain Omegas, Omega 19's. V's, & XL's). This prompted me to check the label rims on my Condor. They are marked Omega 20. Are these just a later version of the 19's?

Greg,

I lost track of the Campy rims lineup around the time they all were renamed after Olympic cities. I thought I knew all the Omega clincher variants, but I've never seen an Omega 20 clincher. The 20 was one of several tubular models. Your Omega 20 clinchers could be any of several things... all conjecture on my part. 1) The wrong sticker eneded up on the rim (we're not talking about a high point for Campy QC). 2) Someone swapped the stickers... it can be done 3) Campy decided that the plain ol' Omega needed a unique name, so the 20 was added. In fact, this last possibility seems reasonable, since the plain box Omega is around 20mm wide. This would have reduced the confusion, I think. Easier to say Omega 20, than "Plain ol' Omega, not the 19, not the XL, not the V..."

Does the thing look more like a Mavic MA40 or a Mavic Open 4?

Another note: It turns out that at some point the 19's came in a silver finish, in addition to the hard annod. Other Omagas could have been also.
