The way I look at it, if it weren't for these kid's renewed interest in bicycle riding, there wouldn't be anyone under the age of 50 on a steel bike, let alone a "vintage" steel bike. Yeah, some of them have hacked nice stuff up, but probably not as many of us who have had "incidents" where we had to either throw the frame away or replace the top tube/downtube. My old Carlsbad Masi, a bit bent, is out there someplace. I loaned it to an employee and it never came back. It's just a bike.

Most of them are in tune to current pricing and availability of at least NJS stuff. Phil Wood has even answered the call and is offering hubs in colors other than the basic shiny Al or black. The guys that I know or come around my shop know that the lockring on a Phil track hub is Campagnolo threaded. I make it a point to tell them to not touch my Baylis bicycles. I also tell them that the Los Angeles bike club, Major Motion, is named after Major Taylor.
