No. Unfortunately, a full answer to this question will deviate from this list's stated topic of Classi Lightweight bicycles. The quick answer is that the advert is the product of society which wished to appear as "normal" despite being occupied by a foreign power, despite being ruled by collaborators, and despite being surrounded by a world in turmoil.

Now, in no way do I want to start any sort of "flame war", any sort of anti-French thread, any sort of anti-German thread, any sort of anti-anything thread, or any sort of thread that doesn't pertain to Classic Lightweight bicycles.

So please... any all words of assent, dissent, "flames", attacks and even words of support can be sent to me off-list. :-)
