Put some tape on the front of the spider before you file, otherwise, you will scratch the anodizing. And that will reduce the value for sure.

I read somewhere that in the old days of Campagnolo's lifetime warranties, the filed-out spiders were the only modification that did not void the warranty.

Campagnolo removed the sharp stress riser on their very first and their very last "Record" cranks...
