This reminds me of "steampunk", the movement started in the 1980's to extend 19th-century steam technology to solve 21st-century problems. Inventors make steam-powered laptops, steam-powered motorcycles, etc. Inventors in this movement take great pains to dress the part ...

Perhaps we should create a subculture called "Bikepunk" to extend 1970's bicycle technology to solve 21st-century problems? Our first act might be to invent carbon-fiber tire savers? It certainly seems like the "tweed cycling club" is retracing (not blazing) a retro-trail in this area .. Has anyone seen this article yet ??

Our first act might be electing Jan Heine and/or Hilary Stone as father or parents of the movement !!
