Aldo-Thanks for yet another very interesting image of champions past.

The great Spanish racer Julian Barrendero (1912-1995) known by his Spanish "mote" as "El negro con los ojos azules," at 37 years of age was probably past his prime in 1949. Both the Spanish Civil War and WWII had intervened and in sports the years pardon no one. However, after his great achievement as King of the Mountains in the 1936 Tour de France (Spain finished second in Team standings) he went on the be the first Spanish winner of the Vuelta in 1941, won again in 1942, and finished second in in 1943 and 1944.
