hi sean,...this is just a guess on my part but if the fork is italian threaded and you would like to replace the hs. i would think that an italian threaded headset would thread on and off correctly...it would be the grooves in the softer alloy cup that would be altered a touch to thread onto a different angled thread.i doubt the male threads on the steel steerer tube would have changed... unless it was a stel headset that was mashed on there. ....if the headset you have is good or to your liking i would leave it be. i think the back and forth thing applies to the headset rather than the steerer tube. so your english threaded hs. is now best suited for italian thread steer tubes . that is my take on it all.for what its worth i had an italian threaded athena hs(alloy). that was a tight fit on my bsc. threaded merckx fork but they are functioning quite nicely together so as the saying goes "don't mess w/success" kevin ruberg howell nj usa ps kinda like a shimangolo i have one bike with both species and they seem to interact w/o any hard feelings or predjudices...be good...not able to ride just yet here in nj. due to circumstances beyond my control and not liking it.

i got around to finally disassembling my Colnago to check the condition of the HS and BB. At some point, someone, possibly the original owner, threaded an english headset onto the Italian steerer. I know that the threading for English/Ital is pretty much the same except for the pitch, but I've been told it's not a good idea to go back and forth from one to the other.

So should I a: replace the HS with another english one, or b: replace it with the correct italian threaded HS?

Advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks all.
