Charlotte Bronte ??

I tend to agree with you about roadie attitudes and I don't think that it's something new. Back in the 70s we called it "The Racer's Edge" referring to a Gillette deodorant ad from around that time.

Last summer I ran across a group of triathlon riders who had just finished a

hard 60 mile ride. They were pretty chatty and interested in the 1984 Gitane

Tour de France that I was riding. You're right, they were talking bikes and equipment.

Two weeks ago I was out on a social ride with an old friend. We did the CaƱada Rd. loop in Woodside, CA. There were many packs of "raceurs" out th at day. There must have been 100 riders in one Webcore group. Then there were the wo men in pink and black T-mobile kits.

My friend was riding his mid 90s Bianchi with a celeste aero titanium frame and I was on a 92 Gitane Team bike. No one seemed to notice while we were ou t riding or even when we stopped at a local gathering place. I guess many of t hem considered us just a couple of old phreds! ;-)

I like to ride around that area. It's not just the spectacular scenery but there's always a fashion show! The "fashionistas" used to annoy me but as lo ng as they don't try to run me off of the road they have just as much right to enjoy themselves as I do.

When I go over to Woodside or up to Marin I usually take a special bike and dress to match it. I like to show off too!

If someone notices it or comments, it makes my day, otherwise I'll just take

out a beater and have a pleasant ride.
