Edward;

This one has me a bit confused. ? Aside from the steering tube stamp, the frame can be dated from the Guinciclo (sp?) lugs with the triangular side windows, Masi only used these lugs in 1969-1970.? I don't remember ever seeing original shifter bosses on a Masi this old.?? But Faliero liked to experiment, and also was known to do custom work by request.? So I suppose there's a slim possibility that shifter bosses could be original on a bike of this vintage.? The paint and decals certainly look right on the money... if they aren't, the quality of the work suggests that it might be Masi's own repaint, done within a few years after the bike was built (too much later and he probably would have run out of decals... Alberto did not get older decals reprinted, he just substituted whatever was on hand).

Which suggests another theory... note that the fork and frame stamps do not match (F59.5 vs F58).? Plus there appears to be a very tiny "4" stamped on the bottom bracket... at first I thought it was a remnant of Fischer's +GF+ trademark, but on closer inspection it clearly appears to be a "4."? It looks like the smaller (1/8") size stamp that Alberto started using to date his frames in 1974 (and occasionally to mark his repaints).? So perhaps one could assume that we are looking at a 1974 crash repair?? A fork replacement from another bike, added shifter brazeons, a repaint with correct decals.? What is also interesting is if you take a look at the 1974 model year GC's... Alberto had just started doing shifter brazeons in 1973, but was not yet doing top tube cable guides... which is exactly how this bike's configured.

Could someone enlighten me about the Masi GC, ebay # 120394160343
     Although it all looks correct I cannot square the bike with what appears to be brazed on down tube shifter bosses with campy shifter plates still attached. I did not think they were doing these braze-ons that early. Or am I totally wrong here? Edward Albert Chappaqua, New York, U.S.A.
