Subject: [CR] Dave Snyder's Schwinns

I read Dave Snyder's post about his Varsity and Continental Schwinn bik es.   Who does't admit to at sometime in their misspent youth wanting a Schwi nn Continental. In the early sixties while in Junior High, I wanted a Conti nental. It was so exciting for a kid in a small country town. It was the ap ex of cool bikes compared to the varsity and its balloon tired brethern. I was crushed, My parents said no, I would be getting a driver's license so on and would not ride it enough to get my money's worth out of it. I suppos e they were right. Still, when I see a nice Continental with the old Huret derailleur, it is a trip down nostalgia lane for me of what could have been .   During college I acquired a varsity as one of many bikes that passed th rough my hands for fixing and reselling. I kept it for longer than usual, f or a sale bike. It was fun. Besides I went to college in Davis California. It is very flat around Davis and as long as one rides before three P.M. the wind is usually very mild. Therefore the Schwinn gravity monsters are no i mpediment to enjoyable riding.
