FWIW I've never seen extreme tape fail. Wait till you try to remove the tire. The normal tape used to come "unstuck" in hot climates. Tearing sounds would make me worry about the base tape and tire coming apart.

I used Tufo Extreme Rim Tape to moun t the tires on a new set of wheels. The tires are new Panaracer Practice Dual (yellow and black tread) pumped to 100

psi on NOS Mavic GL330 rims.

I cleaned the rims with alcohol and acetone to make sure there wasn't any kind of residue on them. The Tufo tape was easy to apply and tires mounted e ven easier.

For the first 3-4 rides, no problems. Yesterday about an hour into the ride I started hearing a "ticking" sound from the rear wheel. I stopped and checked

everything. Then the front tire started making the noise too.

Pretty soon tires started making a tearing sound and then a squeaking sound.

It only happens over 15 mph. The temperature was 500-600. I checked the tires, brakes, rims, spokes and hubs. Everything looked good.

Anyone ever have this happen?

I'm wondering if the Tufo Tape is starting to fail?
