Subject: [CR] Appreciation of 1st Annual San Diego Custom Bicycle Show

Hi Listers,

I wanted to say thank you to the organizers of the San Diego Bicycle Show and in particular Brian Baylis for making it happen! It was a fantastic event with something for everyone-from low riders to high tech carbon, bamboo, and stainless steel bikes. There was plenty to see for the vintage enthusiasts with classic bikes and frames from Carlton, Cinelli, Confente, Herse, Masi, Raleigh, and Schwinn, to name a few. Amazing and stunning modern work was on display from Brian Baylis, Rob Roberson, Sadilah, Ybarrola, Bohemian, Maldoror, Nobilette, Rene Herse, Vendetta, Lyonsport, Keith Anderson, Bruce Gordon, Rock Lobster, Kish, Moon, Paul Taylor, Argonaut, Winter, Gallus, Ahrens and others. Speedplay brought their collection of pedals spanning the century from 1880-1980, along with their Masi Special/Rob Roberson cloning project. Kudos to Joe Bell and Bill Holland for opening their shops and hosting a wild Saturday night taco, beer, and tequila bash. Ole! Thanks to Sterling Peters for leading a rambling vintage ride on Sunday that took in the San Diego River, Point Loma, the San Diego Harbor, the Gaslamp District, and Balboa Park. Good times! More out-of-towners were requested for next year's event. Special thanks to Velo Cult Bicycles of San Diego for providing liquid refreshment and music at the event and hosting an after party. Lastly, the weather was predictable for San Diego-pure sun and 70 to 80 degrees. For any event, but particularly for a first year event, it was an outstanding success. I'll post some selected photos on Picasa before long. Thanks again,

Stephen Bryne
