Greg- IIRC SM pads had two designs. The first was the orange pad bonded to an Alu, finned and curved back plate. The later used the more common slide in a dovetail design. If yours are the bonded type you might not want to trust them. Due to debonding incidents the slide in type came about. It is ok to cut down the length to fit, from the open end only!
