[CR] I don't think I'll buy another bike without seeing it first...

(Example: Component Manufacturers)

Wanted to share a recent ebay experience that pertains to the hobby of classic bikes. I really enjoy the old British club bikes, RRA, Clubman, and Lentons. Here is the ad of a bike I recently purchased: 1953 Raleigh Lenton Sports, Serial#471245T Reg Harris model. restored, 21 " frame, complete with Sturmey Archer Dynamo hub on 27"x 1 14" Sturmey Archer steel rim 32 holes, Sturmey Archer light set, Rear 27"x 1 1/4" Dun lop steel rim with Sturmey 3 speed AW hub, 40 hole, Alloy Raleigh Maes bars on Raleigh Steel Stem, with correct Raleigh brakes,Dunlop 27X1 1/4" Sprite

Tyres. Brooks B17N Saddle, Williams 3pin, chain set, Raleigh pedals.Bluem els Mudguards and pump, Saddle bag, Brooks carrier, Lucas Bell, Rides great.

I received the bike a few weeks ago and didn’t have time to assem ble it until now. Man what a disappointment! Seller mentioned bike is †œrestored”. Wow, the paint looks like a 12 year old did it, the old 1 thick coat process. The rear rim is badly corroded. The Dunlop Sprite Tyres are so rotten as not to be usable, the B17N is rotten, the Williams chainset wobbles when spun, maybe a bent spindle? The rear cog also wobbles when spun backwards, at least it matches the front. The bike is made for 26† wheels anyway! The front mudguard has a 4” crack, the rear a 15” crack.

Well this is going to be an expensive Lenton by the time it’s don e properly. I guess when buying on ebay one has to ask questions if condit ion is not mentioned. I assumed no mention implied decent condition. I guess the saying about "assuming" is true. Although feeling cheated and saddened to have spend $475 for this mess, I will preserver and “rerestore⠀ the bike LOL. Can anyone recommend a frame painter that would have the color codes or

some history painting old Raleighs? Also, would anyone have a pair of or single Dunlop special lightweight rims, 26”, 32/40 hole they would like to sell? Thanks for listening to my rant, think I’ll put this one aside an d finish my Paramount.
