Hello Ken ,I wanted to give you an update on the brooks?It was only ugly an d somewhat dry?i thought this thru before i did it but because the surface is an actual applied finish to the top when new?I believe the restorers act ually remove this top coat and reapply it very minimally,i think? so? I act ually used a wet sand paper to remove any sharp edges of the crackling as t hey look hairline and are just the top coat that was applied.I'm talking ba rely invasive and it has kept the edges from catching on my clothing and ac tually coming off?It really smoothed out the top.I did not used a bucket of water and infact iI used saliva and did very small areas and wiped them cl ean instantly.the saddle was then tightened a bit so it had some spring to it and i rode it old school today with clips and tennis shoes,cotton hat an d jeans?The seat is amazing!!! I really appreciate your input?and?help you provided me.I used only proofide as you instructed me too.I did underside a nd top a couple of times and the saddle seems to be strong.My fiend that so ld it to me could'nt believe his eyes ? It looks amazing on my 1970 px-10!! I had a honey brooks pro on it that was good too,but the black has the cha racter i wanted. Thanks again,regards Brad Sasher

This is not the entire tool. It came with a matching socket for the puller and crank bolt (both are 16 mm) and a T-handle. The back side of the socket has teeth to remove dust caps. I found one in my toolbox. I probably bought it 40 years ago from Cyclopedia. It's weird, because I don't remember owning Stronglight cranks.

John- This reminds me of my formative years working in the city's "service"
bike shop. Winter on the Great Lakes made for a lot of "make work" between
the overhauls w e tried to solicit. My bosses didn't believe in buying prebuilt wheels and would order rims by the barrel, literally 50 rims bundled up in a barrel shaped package. Hubs were either recycled or new by
the crate. Spokes (mostly Torrington with some Robergel Sports) came in 500
unit boxes. My fingers wouldn't take more then 6-9 wheels a day before the
skin would be too raw from handling nipples, no nipple drivers back then. I
still remember my surprise when one Spring we got a prebuilt wheel order from a supplier (maybe HW Georger Co.). We all thought the quality was not
very good but we were happy to not be lacing up so many wheels. Funny now a
days it's a cool repair that needs a hand built wheel.

I've never seen larger than 21 tooth for the middle size... I'm the kind of guy who just got a smaller front ring set and used smaller than 14 on the small side, had slightly less weight and the same range. I do know there are some reasons for not going smaller than 14, but I think the slightly reduced efficiency was un-noticeable. yes they wear a touch faster, but I was not in top gear all that often...

Hi, robert, nice find! I would proceed slowly, doing the least "invasive" things first. I'd follow the medical oath of "First, do no harm." After brushing off any dust, I'd give it a light coat of Proofide on the bottom and let that soak in for perhaps two days. It should feel incrementally more supple. If the top surface does not seem fragile, I'd go ahead with a light coat of Proofide on the top, and let it settle for a couple of days.
I would at this point only turn the bolt to take up any slack it might have. I would not add any tension to the leather skin.
If all looks well, put it on a bike and try sitting on it for a few minutes. If it survives this, you might not have any deep cracks forming into tearing, and some lengthier sitting is worth a try. Also, with butt contact the finish should start to re-polish (I saw this on a 197x B17 I had). After this point, you have done the easy stuff other than perhaps some saddle soap to replenish the leather further. You have to reassess to decide if the saddle is coming around, and if it is solid enough to withstand use. I'd mainly look for cracks deepening and propagating.

The New Winner and Winner did sorta have three types of cogs, but the details are critical. It looks like there are actually 11 types of cogs. It looks like there are 7 types of spacers too. The Winner Pro is a different story, with mostly different cogs. The Winner Pro is much easier to deal with, but you don't have option of non-Ultra spacing. Not a big loss for most of us.
Jerry, if you can tell me the letter and tooth designation for the cogs you are seeking, I'll check my stock.
