Rip-Tie is the best brand name to look for on these puppies. Hook and Loop Cable Wraps is the generic term. Good ones will have a feature that'll keep the wrap attached to the cable when it's off the bike.

Hi Dan, At Murray's Auto Parts several years ago, I found a small roll of 25 little Velcro straps that had a point on one end, and a sort of slot or loop at the other. You can wrap these around the top tube, thread the tip through the loop, pull tight and then set the hooks and loops for what I think would
be a nice, tight, and secure fit. Pull them off when not wanted, and use them again and again. The little roll cost about two to three dollars, IIRC, and it went a LONG way. My roll is gone now, which reminds me that I
need to go back in and try to find them again. Let me know if I should look out for a roll for you too.

I'd like to run a brake on the rear of a vintage track bike I just received that came drilled in the rear as well as front. As the bike's got a fixed/free hub, I'd feel more comfortable with two brakes if I run a freewheel. I've no problem with running housing all the way, but want to be able to quickly and easily strip off the brakes and bars to convert to pure track and leave no marks in the original paint of this old soldier. I also like to have matching brake levers as another grip point and symmetry.
I'm thinking zipties inside out so the sharp edge doesn't touch, but are there other solutions that folks on the list might use for this sort of thing. I'm also thinking of the cable ties made for Cantiflex tubing, but not owning a Bates, I've never done more than look at those rare things.
Please let me/us know any ideas you might have, on or off list.
