It's very simple. Steel frames as a mass commercial proposition are dead. Period. Surly is a niche producer as is Lemond. Custom builders are the ultimate niche producer-one frame. It's OK, I thought this list was about collecting and enjoying classic bikes so who cares if Eddy isn't making steel any more? He is/was a commercial producer making racing bikes and there ain't no more steel racing bikes. Phil Brown RIP in Oakland, Calif.
