Subject: [CR] Vintage rides & Bike to Work Day

Yesterday there were over 8000 registrants for Bike to Work day in DC, with commuter convoys, free T-shirts, and Energy Secretary Chu making a few remarks. As is my custom, I rode vintage, my ~'53 Ephgrave with ASC gears. A very striking red with grey bike, with gold lettering, etc. I saw two other KOF bikes, and lots of old bikes, but all were anonymous and unnoticed. Pretty bikes are not what this crowd was about. These were people who were about the ride and the "green" values, with occasional jerseys from USEPA and USDA groups. Not about the bikes, a wonderfully heterogeneous mixture from old to new, from low-end to custom.

So, we can enjoy our rides and our collections, but we are a special subset of the bike people population, and that's ok.
