For chrome finishes on bicycles it's all down to the quality and thicknesses of the job done. Chrome can vary from something you could bury in the ground for 20 years, dig up and quickly polish up to absolutely as new to something that starts peppering, rusting and peeling just seeing rain through the window. A lot of bicycle chrome has been closer to the latter, but its not the fault of the technique
