"Gitane 10-Speed Bicycle. Approximately 34 years old. Heuret derailleurs. Used only briefly - about six months - during the 70's and not at all since. Approximately 25 inches from pedal shaft to bottom of seat. Has super comfortable seat. Asking $65. Am in DC metro area and Maryland and northern VA suburbs frequently. Will consider delivering to you at some mutually convenient location. E-mail or call 240-285-3763 or 304-728-8887." http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/bik/1228943797.html.

No connection, but others have been seeking its cousins. Looking at the dropped chain and Pletscher rack, my mind's eye gleams, thinking about the other "features" I associate with the genre: Rigida rust-o-matic 27" rims, maybe the famed Mafac plastic touring levers, the French threading, the lower line Simplex derailleurs, and even the upgrade to a lovely mattress saddle. But, maybe this one has Weinmann brake levers. Fortunately, it has mid-stay mounted rear brake, which can work very well, instead of the insane cable roller that immobilized the brake return after a few months of tender loving neglect. Guess it's just not my cup of tea. :-) Sure isn't a Jack Taylor.
