George; I have a very strange concept of originality, said by Mr. Bayliss. I consider originality only when I have a frame completely sandblasted. At that point only can I see the work of the frame or frame builders of that day or time that they built the frame. You can also see the quality of the tubing be it lightweight or just run of the mill. If the tubing has any damage only then can you see if it is repairable. Anything else that goes on a frame after that is just a covering for looks. Originality is your choice after the frame is sandblasted and it has a chance to go on forever. Many classic frames could never be considered original if there was not a builder with this insight. I think everyone should try this because it is a good feeling after you do something on your own. A quote from Mr. Porter " we are nothing more then pipefitters" this is a way to keep humble even when work is over the top with quality. Yes many frames are different quality but after they are painted they are just decorated.
