I'd heard rumours for years about a relationship between Haylett and Gitane but no concrete answers. When I saw this eBay auction my eyes lit up.
There was a discussion on the Gitaneusa.com Forum about Gitanes and Heyletts earlier this year but it didn't shed any light on your inquirey.
Jacques Anquetil rode Helyetts from the 1950s until he switched to Gitane about 1963. Here's a link to a lot of great photos of him:

Does anyone have info on Helyett-Gitane? A current eBay listing, item 280366772650, has a late 70's Helyett shown with a Gitane badged fork crown. Helyett stopped production in the early/mid 60's. Seller says Gitane bought the name but knows little beyond that.
