Jon,

Those are made of Delrin plastic. Never saw many of them because by the time they came out, not many bikes were coming into the US with Simplex derailleurs. I wouldn't recommend them for actual use as the plastic gets brittle over time.

Found some black Simplex retrofriction shifters on ebay this morning--never seen them like this before, though:

The barrels look right but the lever graphics and style look to be an homage to the old Delrin-derailleur-days levers...

What gives?
