I'm not sure why the name change, I think I had moved away from Ohio before he changed it, so I never asked him or was present if it was discussed at club functions. I bought lots of stuff also. In the 70's and early 80's he sold both Zeus and TA components and other now-classic stuff.

\r?\n> Interesting bit of trivia there.

\r?\n> Just curious - why did Arnie change the name from Bike

\r?\n> Warehouse to Bike Nashbar?  I was (mis)informed that he

\r?\n> bought out the owners of Bike Warehouse and changed the

\r?\n> name.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> I bought a lot of stuff from Bike Warehouse in the late

\r?\n> 70s.  I recall them having cheap prices and fast service -

\r?\n> and I LOVED their catalogue!

\r?\n> There was no pre-Arnie Nashbar Bike Warehouse.  Arnie

\r?\n> founded Bike Warehouse, later changing the name to Bike

\r?\n> Nashbar, then more recently selling out to Perfomance

\r?\n> Bicycles. I don't know if Arnie has continued any

\r?\n> association with operation since the sale.  In the early

\r?\n> 70's I was a member of The Outspokin' Wheelman, an LAW club

\r?\n> in Youngstown, OH, of which Arnie was a co-founder.  Arnie

\r?\n> was then running what would later become Bike Warehouse out

\r?\n> of his garage.  Nevertheless, Arnie evidently was large

\r?\n> enough or maybe well connected enough to get dealer pricing

\r?\n> on Schwinn World Voyageurs, a now somewhat legendary bargain

\r?\n> early Japanese Schwinn with a DB CrMo frame and high-end

\r?\n> Japanese components, including several original DuraAce

\r?\n> bits.  This bike was made for only one year, can't remember

\r?\n> if that was 1973 or 1974.  The World Voyageur was a bargain

\r?\n> even at retail, but Arnie got about half a dozen club

\r?\n> members these bikes at an even better price.  As

\r?\n> I

\r?\n> recall they were all international orange, although this

\r?\n> bike also came in lemon yellow and sky blue.
