Subject: [CR] 'Churchill' frame---PHOTOS and a MYSTERY?????

Hi, Ken, CR Members---

Yesterday I posted to the List in response to Ken Foster's seeking more information on the builder of a lightweight frame he has acquired by the name of Churchill.

I told him that I had twice seen another Churchill sell at auction on ebay, once about three or four years ago on ebay UK, then (the same frame again) sometime last year or so on ebay USA.

Intrigued by the frame, the marque (which I had not previously heard of), and the interesting transfers that the frame sported, I saved the photos from both auctions. They are now posted on my Photobucket page for your inspection---

The marque's full name is "F. CHURCHILL, Croydon." Croydon is a borough of London. The address given is George Street.

???????The mysterious part of the equation are the letters underneath the Churchill name on the head and seattube transfers---- "F.I. CYC. T." Or possibly, because of the sans serif font, F.1. CYC. T. ??????

What does "F.I. CYC. T." mean? The letters bear no resemblance to any UK postal code of which I am aware. And their placement, below the maker's name and not below the location in Croydon, seems to suggest that these letters say something about the builder himself. Might the letters refer to some engineering certificate or some other professional status? Does the "CYC" stand for "Cycles"? Am I missing something really obvious?

Any help from our friends in the UK or anyone else in the know in solving this mystery, or in providing any more information on F. CHURCHILL of Croydon, would be greatly appreciated!

Cheerio,
