I forget which of the NY shows it happened at (and there may have been more than one). Every time I would look at a really nice show bike, especially Italian, it would have a placard on it that said something on the order of "After the show, you can buy this bike at Conrad's." Made me realize that the Georgetown scene of the late '70s was still a backwater, even with Tow Path Cycles selling PX-10s and Raleigh Pros by the dozen, Mike Schwering's Georgetown Cycle Sport selling custom bikes and high-end imports, Mel Pinto's retail Bicycle Pro Shop and Big Wheel Bikes selling a lot of Fujis and Atalas.
