Let me preface by saying I never worked for a shop or a distributor outside of California I think Mercier suffered from a definite lack of name and distribution here in the California While Peugeot had the best distribution here Motobecane started slow but ended up an equal powerhouse. Both went the same way from a US distributor to Factory owned subsidiary warehousing both Bikes and Mopeds. Gitane which had a much larger product line started in second place after Peugeot but was probably displaced by Motobecane. Mercier seemed to be a step child right from the start and though we sold them at my Dads shop a couple of times I think they were always just an after thought from secondary distributors. We picked them up when bikes were short and they were gone when we could get enough of our other bikes Though they were mainly enamel paint ,I liked their stenciled pin striping and graphics . Anyone have any idea as to Sales Numbers over the years?
