Harvey,

Ever notice how most of these these derailleurs that come up for sale are in such great condition?

Wasn't this the derailleur that Frank Berto got onto Campy's bad side over because of his negative review in Bicycling Magazine? He commented that these derailleurs were so strong that your frame would break before any damage occurred to one of them.

Back in the day, I had an early 70's Gitane Gran Tourisme touring bike that came with one of these beasts. I replaced it with a Shimano Crane before I ever got on the bike!

A while back I picked up an all original 1971 Hetchins Italia set up for touring. It has an all steel SunTour GT long cage rear derailleur which while heavy still shift well. I was told that "Alf Hetchins refused to use Campy Gran Turismo derailleurs!"

I have a Gran Turismo derailleur that I keep on my desk for decoration! The cage always reminded me of the grim reaper's scythe. ;-)

Out of curiosity I just weighed the "thing": 380g, 13.5 oz.

Look! NOS NR pulleys, only $24 ea! :-)

And, the carcass can serve well for boat ballast, decorative trim in a fish tank, or thousands of other uses. All of which will be better than our experience with the Gran Trashmo.
