Subject: [CR] Bob Roll's lack of recollection of Murray bikes (in person chat)

I was fortunate to personally meet and briefly chat with Bob Roll about the Serotta built 7-Eleven Murrays when he spoke at a local event.  Upon asking him if I could photograph him next to my Murray 7-Eleven bike, Bobke said that the 7-Eleven team never rode Murrays, mentioning Huffys and later Eddy Merckx bikes.  I replied that he in fact did ride a Serorra Murray, and offered photos to prove it.

His memory seemed to be jogged by the appearance of my Murray, and later in his speech even mentioned Ben Serotta's fine machines (assuming he was referring to the Columbus tubed frames that preceded the fragile True Temper Huffy frames).  My encounter with Bobke occured prior to the article about 7-Eleven team bikes appeared in the Road Bike Action magazine article.

Recall reading that Bobke crashed the specially built De Rosa built frame the next day in a race, and wished he had that bike back in his personal stable.

If you ever get the chance to hear Bobke speak, I highly recommend it.  He is very personable and extremely funny!!!
