i think the extended headtube looks fine and yes it serves the purpose grant just mentioned. kinda surprised to see some of you guys trash talking the frame. i think it's really nice. the extension makes perfect sense on an all-arounder frame. i'd rather see that than a seatpost slid all the way down in the tube or a stem raised all way to the limit...

and yes the builder can remove the extension and remove the cable bosses as davidson did with the lugs on my frame. e-richies lug designs are pretty badass atmo. especially the rene herse.

\r?\n> As with all of Richard's modern lug profiles,

\r?\n> the headtube extension is there to replace the

\r?\n> height lost when combined with Ahead style stems.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> The builder can easily trim 4 or 5mm's from the

\r?\n> upper lug, or modify the lug to remove the rest of the

\r?\n> 15mm extension entirely.

\r?\n> Ugly or pretty? Practical or fashion?

\r?\n> I think an extended headtube makes perfect sense on a

\r?\n> touring bike as it obviously lets one raise the bars higher

\r?\n> without using an extra-long stem quill.  To me any

\r?\n> little touch on a touring bike which is a thoughtful

\r?\n> enhancement of function is elegant and beautiful.  I

\r?\n> think it was Rivendell that popularized the extended

\r?\n> headtube, or at least repopularized it and made many

\r?\n> American cyclists aware of it.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> I was surprised at the extended headtube on the Della Santa

\r?\n> recently on eBay only because I had never seen a Della Santa

\r?\n> touring frame before.  But it makes perfect sense on

\r?\n> this frame, just as DO eyelets and seatstay bosses for a

\r?\n> rack do.
